Meet Sheila, the Photographer Behind Castle Color Photography

Hi, I’m Sheila, and I’m the photographer behind Castle Color Photography.
If you find me at a session, there is a good chance I’ll be wearing something comfortable. Between the sand, water, wind, and chasing little ones around, comfort is usually the best choice! Photography sessions are about movement, connection, and real moments, and I want to be right there in the middle of it with you.
My love for photography started long before Castle Color Photography began. My family owned a portrait studio in Ohio, which is where the name Castle Color Photography comes from. While I did not grow up working there full time, I spent many visits surrounded by the creativity and excitement of the studio. That early exposure sparked something that stayed with me, and I am proud to be the third generation of photographers in my family.
As a teenager, I also spent time modeling, which gave me a different perspective behind the camera. It helped me understand posing, angles, lighting, and how small changes can completely transform an image. Most importantly, it taught me how vulnerable it can feel to be in front of a camera, and that experience shapes the way I photograph my clients today.
Now, I am lucky enough to call the Outer Banks of North Carolina home. This place has always been a source of inspiration for me. The beaches, the light, the changing seasons, and the natural beauty around us create the perfect backdrop for family photography, senior portraits, maternity sessions, couples photography, and beach portraits.
My approach is simple: I want you to feel comfortable being yourself.
The best images are not always the perfectly posed ones. They are the moments in between: the laughter, the connection, the little personalities, and the memories that tell your story. Whether you are celebrating a milestone, documenting your family as it grows, or simply wanting to remember this season of life, my goal is to create photographs that feel meaningful and timeless.
I have always been the person behind the camera in my own family (which means I am often missing from the photos!), and I know how important it is to preserve those moments. I love helping families create images they can enjoy today and pass down for years to come.
Creative photography is one of my favorite parts of what I do. If you have an idea, a vision, or something unique you would love to create, I would love to collaborate with you and bring it to life.
When I am not photographing families along the Outer Banks, you will usually find me spending time with my family, creating something new, reading a good book, listening to music, cooking, gardening, or exploring the outdoors. I love anything that allows me to be creative, whether that is photography, sewing, embroidery, watercolor, or learning something new.
Photography is more than a job to me. It is a way to create, connect, and preserve the moments that matter most.
I am so grateful for every person who trusts me to capture their memories, and I cannot wait to be part of your story.
